Welcome to Reception

A very warm welcome to you all for your child’s first year at St John’s C of E Primary!

We have one Reception class this year, RDB, taught by Mrs. Brothers, supported by Mrs. Tandy and Mrs. Wilkins. Our day is a mixture of formal teaching and child-initiated learning opportunities, which allow an excellent start to school life at St. John’s.
Please support your child at the beginning of their learning journey by encouraging them to bring in their reading book and record each day. Class reading books are changed each Tuesday and Phonics reading books are changed each Friday.

Our well-being day is on Wednesday each week. Children will need to come to school in their PE uniform (plain blue t-shirt, plain navy/black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, school jumper/cardigan or plain navy/black hoodie, pumps or trainers). Please remember that earrings should be removed or covered before school on well-being days. Children will also need to bring in appropriate clothing for Forest School; long sleeved top, long trousers, wellington boots, coat. These clothes will get muddy so please make sure you don’t send in best clothes.

We use class dojo to share useful updates with you and you can also see how many points your child has earned in class. Make sure to register by contacting your child’s class teacher.

Staff are always on hand at the beginning and the end of the day if you need to speak to someone.
